Orchestra
The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Orchestra is a full concert orchestra. All participants rehearse and perform with professional orchestral musicians under the direction of internationally recognized conductors. The daily schedule includes full orchestra rehearsals as well as individual and sectional coaching. Repertoire consists of standard and contemporary symphonic literature. Students may also participate in chamber music and ensemble work. The orchestra performs two concerts during the Institute.
Application Requirements:
1) As soon as possible, call the Oklahoma Arts Institute office at (405) 321-9000 to schedule attendance at one of the auditions. Audition spaces fill quickly, and video tapes are not accepted as a substitute for live auditions.
2) Download and submit a complete application.

Audition Requirements:
Please arrive early to check in and warm up. Auditions are blind and will be taped for adjudication at a later date.
All auditions must be unaccompanied.
Play a two-octave major scale of your choice in slow quarter notes.
Perform a solo or excerpt from a symphony (no etudes) a maximum of three minutes long. The work should demonstrate your ability to play lyrically and technically and does NOT have to be memorized.
Sight-read
Percussionists: Perform a short solo or etude on snare, timpani, and marimba, approximately 3 minutes each. Sight-read on snare and marimba.
Harpists: You may only audition in Tulsa or Oklahoma City, and you must provide your own instrument. Two harp students are accepted. At the audition, perform the cadenza from the fourth movement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol and perform two solos of contrasting periods and styles. Each solo should be approximately 3 minutes long.
Flutists: While piccolo is a part of the Institute orchestra, you must audition on flute.
The Institute Orchestra does not include piano, saxophone, or guitar .
