2025 Drawing & Painting

Drawing & Painting students concentrate on the principles of drawing and painting through studio work, slide lectures, and demonstrations. Students are introduced to color, imagery, media, and various drawing and painting techniques. The class may also focus on printmaking, 3-D art, and/or mixed media. Students will display their work in public exhibitions. Up to 20 students are accepted.

Requirements for Applicants

To apply to the drawing & painting program, applicants may submit up to three (3) previously created works and must complete one (1) still life drawing. The three portfolio pieces can be any combination of paintings, drawings, mixed media, and/or 3-D artwork. The still life drawing must be completed using a #2 pencil and one sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper. It is expected that applicants complete their still life drawing within one hour.

Applicants will photograph their artwork to upload online. Applicants will also complete a brief description of work that includes the title and medium of each piece.

Drawing & Painting applicants may also be interested in applying to the Photography program. Typically, students applying to more than one discipline have a higher chance of being selected to attend OSAI, so we encourage applicants to apply for any discipline in which they have an interest.
