2024 Workshops for Adults

Yes, and Yoga

with KERRY WARREN

Participants will engage in warm-up exercises drawn from MBSR and Qigong, followed by collaborative choreography creation using "yes, and" and consent practices. The session will commence with a Q&A and end with a Yoga Nidra meditation. Exploring the need for a consent-forward approach in arts education, we'll examine the CRISP model, emphasizing agency and practicality. Drawing from Warren's experience as a consent-forward teaching artist, lesson plans will be adapted to align with this ethos. The session will culminate in a Yoga Nidra meditation, offering a restorative practice amidst the demands of education. Rooted in relaxation, Yoga Nidra regulates bodily functions and aids stress management. By fostering balance in the autonomic nervous system, it promotes well-being and resilience in educators.

Beginner level with low impact movement.

Watercolor: Abstractions in Nature

with JAN HEATON

Capture what you observe as you interpret nature with fluid contemporary watercolor. Learn to simplify and abstract subject matter with minimal marks, and a broad spectrum of techniques to create bold and captivating works on paper. Develop color palettes and imagery to stretch your preconceived ideas of these elements and their initial meaning. This workshop guides artists through how inspiration translates observations into abstract, graphic, and bold watercolors. Students learn how to economize their mark-making and focus on elements such as line, color mixing, pattern, and composition with watercolor, observing details in nature with a new perspective.

All skill levels welcome.
