Dear Friends,

It is with great reluctance that we have decided to move the 2020 Oklahoma Fall Arts Institute workshops to an online format. While we’d hoped to convene at Quartz Mountain this fall, we simply do not believe we can do so safely at this time.

With educators facing so much uncertainty in teaching formats and schedules during the upcoming school year, our goal is to provide a flexible experience that will allow educators and other artists to engage online through a variety of workshop opportunities. As...

One participant wrote about a tree—later dubbed the “Survivor Tree”—and the incongruities between what survived and what didn’t, and what was supposed to protect people and what didn’t. Another participant made a sculpture out of objects from her daughter’s purse. The purse survived the bombing, but her daughter did not. In the days following the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, many Oklahoma nonprofits and organizations came together and found ways to help however they could.
